Detailed Description
A self-administered, 23-item questionnaire that quantifies physical
limitations, symptoms, self-efficacy, social interference, and quality
of life for Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) patients.
The assessment was developed to provide a better description
of health-related quality of life in patients with CHF. It quantifies,
in a disease-specific fashion, physical limitation, symptoms (frequency,
severity, and recent changes over time), quality of life, social
interference, and self-efficacy.
The KCCQ is a valid, reliable, and responsible health status
measure for patients with CHF and may serve as a clinically meaningful
outcome in cardiovascular research, patient management, and quality
assessment.*

When to administer this assessment
No protocol exists for the administration of this instrument.
As with most quality of life assessments, a baseline assessment
early after diagnosis, then regularly until the patient's condition
stabilizes will help the physician evaluate the patient's adjustment
to the disease and adoption of self-care regimes. Time recall
for the assessment is two-weeks.
Quality of life is a complex concept affected by an individual's
physical health, social relationships, psychological state, and
overall perception of their position in life. A quality of life
assessment is not expected to provide a detailed measure of symptoms
of diseases or conditions. It is designed to assess the effects
of disease and health interventions on the patient's sense of
well-being.
